Mainstream teachers generally shy away from innovative teaching methods which require more effort but make education more effective. We train teachers to use methods that are interactive and encourage students to explore and be curious learners. We use a variety of experiments and activities that teach basic concepts in the science and math curricula that are currently taught by chalk-and-talk. We also supply trainees with science kits and the important accompanying literature so the methods can be transferred to the classroom.
ARCH generated a swell of enthusiasm for creative and new teaching tools by starting with a small group of interested teachers, and later spreading our methodologies to various other groups. Now we train teachers from every school where we conduct our educational support for students. The Silvassa Union Territory also calls on ARCH to conduct trainings for about 100 primary school teachers. We condcut the same teacher trainings for our Village Learning Centers that provide academic support to rural students.
